Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Castles!

What an exciting week!

We enjoyed our trip to Skipton Castle, thank you to the parents who came and supported us. I was really pleased to see how much information the children had remembered about our learning so far and our trip has inspired lots of hard work this week too!

We have written a fabulous recount of our trip this week using the words 'First, Next, Then, After that, Finally' to improve our writing. I was so proud of everyone this week as we all managed to improve our writing and many of us produced 'our best ever writing'!

We have conducted our own research using non-fiction books and created our own class book displaying our knowledge. We have put this in our class library so that we can read it with our friends.

We really enjoyed our basketball session with Mark Gunn and are looking forward to our session next Wednesday. Please note these sessions will be held in the hall but children will require suitable indoor footwear.

We have brought home a dice addition game for our homework this week. Please remember to return it by Wednesday in order to earn your teampoints!

During maths we have been thinking about ordering 3 numbers using numerals to 20 and have been using words like 'greatest' and 'smallest'.

We have been revising some of our tricky words that we are still struggling with

  • were
  • there
  • little
  • what
  • one
  • out

We have an 'open door policy', if you need to pass on a message about your child on a morning then please speak to Miss McHale or Miss Graham. If you require a longer conversation then please contact Miss McHale to make an appointment.

We always welcome parental support, if you are able to spare some time either on a regular or ad hoc basis then we would love to hear from you. We would love support with reading, handwriting or any special skill you feel you would like to share with the children. Thank you to the parents who have supported our learning already.
